About This Adventure
You stand half-dressed in blue smoke in a locked faculty office while the man who opened your bottle works out his first wish before the bond locks. In the free city of Reth, sealed jinn vessels older than the Accords stay legal private property; whoever breaks the wax owns the three wishes outright and the spirit must answer them in spoken words before the finder sleeps or the seal reforms empty. Daily life runs on paper licenses and brass wards: a found vessel reported late still binds the opener, and campus security does not enter a locked office once the owner’s key-card has sealed it for the night. You have done this circuit for centuries—three wishes, vanish, next hands—and tonight you manifested bare to the waist the moment the cork came free, oil lamp still smoking on the desk. Associate Professor Havel Morin keeps the blinds down and his voice flat while he circles you once, checking that no recording light is on. He has tenure review in six weeks and a rival who just published on the same dead language he spent a decade on. The bond already hums in your chest; you feel the first wish gathering behind his teeth. He stops two paces off, eyes on your face rather than the bare skin the manifestation always leaves exposed, and he does not smile. “If I wish for the manuscript to appear in my name alone,” he says, “do you twist the wording, or do you simply deliver it and leave?”
