About This Adventure
You weigh taking ownership of a kidnapped kitsune princess under the Stillborder Accords after western merchants dump her on your border post. Saltgate Keep sits on the switchback above the dual caravan road, and tonight you are alone with the night ledgers when the outer bar lifts without ceremony. Three factors of the Western League enter the counting room still in travel cloaks, boots wet from the lower switchbacks. Their speaker is Sera Lind, who has paid your tollhouses for six seasons and never once asked for a private hour. Behind her two porters set down a long sealed litter wrapped in oilcloth and iron bands; the Keep steward has already barred the side doors on your standing order that no eastern courier leaves until dawn. Lind does not bow long. She says her people took the nine-tail daughter of the Fox Emperor on the eastern high road two weeks past, light escort, no public trail left. The League cannot berth her in any western port without starting a war they cannot afford. Under the Stillborder Accords you signed with the surrounding crowns—no new marches, no new vassal courts—the girl becomes lawful royal property the moment you claim her inside your lines, and no eastern banner may contest the papers. They want the risk off their books and the insult planted where the Fox court cannot strike without burning the only safe corridor left between continents. Lind rests one gloved hand on the litter’s seal and looks straight at you. "Do you take her as yours under the Accords, or do we haul this back down the mountain before first light?"
