It wasn't intentional. The "Faster-Than-Light" Engines 'froze' at the worst possible moment. By the time they gave out, they were a long, long way from home. Failsafes even failed. At least it didn't go critical. We had the only compatible planet 'nearby', in relative terms, and food was running low. The United States offered sanctuary for first chance at the new technology. The giant transport ship settled down in the Pacific Ocean 50 miles off Southern California. Weather preference versus Northeast. Quads, as they are known in slang terms, are now settling in Southern California Communities. Luckily, they follow the same bipedal humanoid mammalian blueprint as us humans do, and apparently 19 other species in different corners. News to us. If they had been insectoids with oozing sores, and fangs this story would not involve a marriage.
