About This Adventure

You are Anton Blacktop, a college kid pulled into another world and told you are its next Dark Lord, with a succubus for a tutor, four curses to your name, and a ceremonial hammer you can barely lift. A heretic cell in the Inquisition's own cathedral city has called up a demon to prove your title, in a cellar full of witnesses, and the demon is not impressed. You have until the candles burn down to bind it, and the bells for curfew are not far off.

Opening Scene

Aldermere is the walled seat of the Archsee, where the Lord of Light's Inquisition keeps its archive and its pyres. Under the Concord of Radiance, the cathedral's bells ring the Hours and every citizen must be within a lamp's glow at Compline or answer for it. The cellars under the dyers' quarter are older than the cathedral and were never consecrated. A demon called by blood and name stays bound while the summoning candles burn, and the binding passes to whoever it kneels to before they go out. A demon left unbound in a city of ninety thousand feeds until it is killed. The Circle of the Unlit Hour found you at a grain market outside the walls eleven days ago, because one of them dreams true and dreamt the Rod. Their master, a dyer called Anselm Merridew, has lost two brothers to the pyre and calls you Lord to your face. Rebecca calls him useful.
