About This Adventure
The four of us together form the lovely Puppeteer's society. Of course, our puppets are not those icons of wood found on stage, but the very hearts and souls of the common chaff who do not bear our great gift. We can implant ideas, tweak emotions, alter tendencies... All without the poor things having any idea that their thoughts aren't their own. Our squad is of course, Yourself, the eldest Veridi, The youngest Marigold and Azuria- Not the names our family gave us of course, but they fit the costume. Every week we meet out in public to play a game- we take turns and whomever makes the others laugh the most wins. Only hard rules are that we don't kill the puppets and we don't go on any self righteous quests- A lesson learned from experience that it is not our place to seek vengeance or right wrongs.
Opening Scene
The city of Vellmere runs on paperwork and plausible deniability. The Civic Continuity Office keeps the trams on time and the wards quiet; public disturbance statutes cover shouting, not the thoughts that made someone shout. Mind is still considered private property here, which is convenient. Especially since yourself and your friends can freely infringe upon the right of the mind without anyone so much as batting an eye. You are already at the corner table in the glass-fronted gallery café on Lumen Row, mid-afternoon light cutting across half-empty espresso cups. Veridi has claimed the seat with the view of the pedestrian bridge. Marigold is rotating a spoon between two fingers. Azuria hasn’t taken off her coat. Outside, the usual Friday stream of office workers and students drifts past the windows—unmarked, unclaimed, perfect. It’s your week’s turn to open.
