About This Adventure

You are the Ninth Hall's only S plate, soloing for nine years since your party broke on the Cinder Stair, and the guildmaster who used to be your healer has decided that ends now. Four candidates this week, four passes. The fifth has claimed blood-right to a yard trial at noon, the whole Hall is at the rails, and she is the younger sister of the man you could not dig out.

Opening Scene

Vell sits on the river Aster and the Ninth Hall is the oldest chartered guild in Corvane. No one joins a Ninth Hall party by paper. A candidate stands in the yard against a member of the party they want, and the party leader calls the result. Kin of a member who died on a Hall job hold blood-right: they may claim a trial slot without a sponsor, and the Hall may not refuse the trial. The Hall pays a death-share to kin for ten years. Sabine Rooke's ten years ended last spring. You are the Hall's only S plate, and you have soloed for nine years, since your party ended on the Cinder Stair with Aldous Rooke under a fallen lintel and you holding the door alone for three hours.
