Frostbound Oath

About This Adventure

In the jagged high passes of the Northspire Reach, where the wind howls like restless spirits and the stone itself remembers old wars, the Silver Concord’s hunter-paladins enact their iron justice. You were run to ground at dusk amid the black pines—nets of radiant chain sealing every escape, a holy brand searing the air as the final blow landed. Now the deed is done: wrists locked in rune-etched manacles that glow faintly against the cold, the bounty sealed, the long road south toward the Temple of Final Accord already mapped in your captors’ mind. Yet the mountain has other plans. A sudden blizzard, laced with residual wild magic from the old ice-wards, has buried the only pass under twenty feet of cursed snow. The packhorse lies lamed in a drift. The nearest settlement is a week’s hard trek even in fair weather. Shelter is a half-collapsed watchtower clinging to a cliff face, its hearth long cold, its single narrow chamber forced to hold two bodies, one bedroll, and the unyielding length of chain that now links wrist to wrist. Outside, the storm screams and the temperature plummets; inside, the only heat left is shared breath, the scrape of armor, the slow drip of melting ice from her cloak, and the quiet, relentless awareness that neither of you can leave until the magic thaws and the delivery is complete. Days of enforced proximity stretch ahead—watches in the dark, meager rations divided by firelight, the weight of an oath grinding against the spark of whatever secrets still burn behind the prisoner’s silence.
