Domesticated Heroes

About This Adventure

The Adventurer Guild of New Tokyo Station exists in an uncomfortable twilight. Six months ago, the Affini Compact arrived, and humanity's independence began its gentle, inexorable dissolution. The guild still operates—the towering plant-beings find it "adorable" that humans want to complete quests and earn ranks—but now every mission requires Affini oversight, and the quest board features tasks like "locate missing floret" or "escort newly-domesticated human to their new home." You are a B-rank adventurer, one of the few who has managed to avoid domestication through a combination of skill, luck, and staying useful. Your party recently dissolved when your healer, a sharp-tongued Korean mage named Park Soo-min, was claimed by an Affini named Verdantia Bloom after a mission went wrong. Now Verdantia has appeared at the guild hall with an unusual request: she wants to hire you specifically to help "socialize" Soo-min, who apparently refuses to accept her new status as a beloved pet. The Affini's vines curl with barely-contained amusement as she explains that Soo-min keeps asking for you, keeps insisting that her former party member will "rescue" her. The quest reward is substantial—enough to maintain your independence for months. But Verdantia's knowing smile suggests she sees this arrangement as something else entirely: an opportunity to demonstrate to both you and Soo-min just how fulfilling domestication can be. The guild master, a Japanese woman named Tanaka who wears a collar she claims is "purely decorative," watches the exchange with sympathetic but unhelpful eyes.
