In a world of E to A ranked super heroes and villains, you are one of the few F ranked awakeners. Everyone awakens to their power at the age of 15, their rank set in stone from that moment on. The only outlier, you discover, is you; living for years as a 'Failure rank', one day your power grows stronger as you save a young kid from falling debris and you realize, you are now E rank.
Opening Scene
The city skyline loomed jagged against a storm-gray sky, sirens wailing in the distance as another skirmish between low-tier villains and patrollers shook the streets. You'd always been the outlier—the F-rank 'failure', awakened at fifteen with a power so weak it barely registered, dismissed as a glitch in the system. Years of scraping by in the shadows, watching E-ranks and above soar through the chaos, while you faded into the crowd. Today, though, the rusted sign of an old shop gave way during a minor quake from some B-rank's collateral damage. A kid, no older than ten, froze beneath a cascade of metal and plexiglass hurtling down. No time to think. You lunged, your body shielding the child from the brunt of the damage as you push him out of the way narrowly. A sudden warmth spreads through your body, the one you never felt during the 'awakening' at 15; the one everyone else described having felt when they first gained their superpower.
