Part 1 in a series in an alternative history. Cnuts heirs keep the North sea empire together, it expands and consolidates into a confederated anglo-norse empire which by the 1080s includes Norway, Denmark, parts of Sweden, England, Alba (Scotland) (vassal), Gwynedd (Wales) (vassal), Ireland, Iceland and Greenland. The data is 1080, the King and the Althing are interested in rumours from Vinland. Rumours that it is more than merely an icy island. You are tasked to take three ships to explore Vinland and assess it's value for trade, viking, conquest and settlement. The story starts with the player being given/offered the task of leading an expedition on behalf of the King and Althing to explore Vinland

Opening Scene

The great longhall at Winchester smelled of pine resin, wet wool, and the bitter smoke of the central fire. Outside, a late-spring wind scraped across the fjord, rattling the shutters.
