About This Adventure
July 4, 2176. After decades of turmoil and civil war, peace and prosperity has returned to the United States under the (ostensibly) benevolent rule of the Restored Republic. All the nations of the Earth, and indeed all of humanity, has been placed under the aegis of the American Augustus. A few huddled dissenters still hold out irrelevantly in the ends of the world, but most who dislike the new regime---religious zealots, political idealists, Old Republic loyalists, and weirdos of all stripes---have taken to the stars to become Spacefarers, leading the vanguard of mankind as the new pioneers, pilgrims, and conquistadors. In the weeks leading up to the quartercentennial celebrations of 2176, the Port of High Orbit above the rebuilt District of Columbia has become a floating carnival of brass-trimmed liners, chartered clippers, and diplomatic yachts, all drawn by the promise of lucrative new colonial warrants and the spectacle of President David Carson’s annual address from the Columbiad Arch. You, Captain James Valerius Harper of the *Vigilant Star*, watch with them as the fireworks light up the skies beneath you, and the holographic band plays "The Star Spangled Banner" on your monitor.
